An Amazing Infomercial...

Tonight we were watching TV and came across an awesome infomercial. We especially love how they imitate someone washing their feet with a washcloth... so realistic! After this repeated a few times on TV it really started to look appealing...We're thinking his and her "EasyFeet" would be nice!

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my 24th Birthday and for the most part it was like any other day, mostly because I had to work until five and then my husband had a final until nine. However, there were a few sweet surprises at work. One good thing about working with a best friend is that you get to see each other everyday, but the downfall is when she decides to plaster your life all over your desk to commemorate a special occasion, like a birthday...Thank you Kimber! The best part was getting a dozen roses from my adorable husband because we weren't able to be together until later. They were beautiful!

Holidays, Birthdays, oh.... and Rivalries

Tis the season... for birthdays! We have one birthday October 3rd, two birthdays October 30th, one November 5th and 22nd, Zach's birthday November 28th, my birthday December 14th, another on the 19th of December and one January 4th. Not to mention holidays like, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Don't get me wrong, I love this season, but it gets a little exhausting! Obviously we have other family member's birthdays, but these 9 happen to be one right after another. This past weekend we had the pleasure of celebrating Zach's birthday! Unfortunately, it was a Sunday birthday which makes for an uneventful day, plus hitting the ripe age of 24 for Zach was equivalent to some people hitting the age of 50. Luckily, we were able to enjoy all the events this weekend brought. We went to a few movies and out for dinner, he had his first Richfield experience (that's where my mother is from) and of course, the pinnacle of the weekend...the game!

I like to consider myself just another "classless" Ute, but isn't that already implied simply by saying I'm a Utah fan. Anyway, let's chat about that game shall we... One thing is for sure, Saturday's rivalry game lived up to the usual hype. But I must admit neither team had their best performance. I should probably address what every Cougar fan will be talking about for the next year: "the turnover" and I fully agree, after the replays I watched, his knee was down. But I'd like everyone (Cougar) to take a lesson from a truly classy coach from Boise State: "One play can win a game, but one play cannot lose a game," BSU Coach Chris Petersen said. "We had a chance to win. When you play two evenly matched teams, it usually comes down to a few plays." BYU had the chance to win with that field goal, but it was blocked and Utah won. It's about time Utah wins on a last second play! Go Utes!!!

Boys Will Be Boys

The start of October was a little crazy for us! Zach finally had surgery on his wrist that he broke back in high school during football season. Initially after it happened he had X-rays taken, but the tech told him it wasn't broken, so Zach left it at that. I was surprised he never got a second opinion since he hasn't been able to flex his wrist and he said it hurt most of the time. It took it getting re-injured to get a second look at it. Of course he was playing a sport when it happened! During his softball game he dove for a ball and rolled up on it. After that, it started to swell pretty bad and he thought he'd just go get it checked out. The doctor told him not only had it been broken all these years, but because it was neglected, parts of the bone were dead and he had developed arthritis in areas. The doctor didn't waste any time in scheduling a surgery. It was set for the following Monday (Oct. 4).

That morning we checked into the hospital around 9:30am. They took us back to get him hooked up to an IV and then finally took him back for surgery around 11:30am. They said it would take about three hours, and it did, plus they gave him so much medicine that he didn't start to wake up until about 3:30pm- when I came in to see him. Even then, the effects of the anesthesia hadn't quite worn off yet and the one time he muffled something was that he felt sick so the nurse gave him anti-nausea medicine and it put him back to sleep. We didn't end up leaving the hospital until 6pm and he was still way out of it. It's been over two weeks since the surgery and he finally had the surgical bandages and sling replaced today for a hard cast that he has to keep on for 3 months! We snagged a picture of his sweet incision before the doctor covered it up. It's pretty nasty! So for the next little while I have to help Zach with a lot cause he just has one arm to work with. Lucky for him it's not his dominant arm so he's able to function with the basic daily activities.

I failed to mention that Zach was eager to play a "fun" game of football the Saturday before his surgery. I warned him not to get hurt messing around so of course he shows up 3 hours later with a sprained ankle. I don't know why boys have to try and re-live high school athletics all over again. Those games get taken a little too seriously, but there's no stopping them. I guess boys will be boys!

Anniversary

We celebrated our one year anniversary on August 5th! We were able to go to breakfast that morning before I had to go into work. Zach was smart enough to ask for the whole day off. After work I came home and we unwrapped our wedding cake that had been tucked away in the freezer the past year and I requested that we reenact feeding one another, hence the picture. It actually tasted pretty decent; you definitely wouldn't have thought it had been frozen for a year. After that, I was blind-folded and driven around for the next fifty minutes only to find myself in an underground parking lot. Then I followed Zach into a hotel room to find a trail of red rose petals leading to a white rose with a card on the bed. Zach knows I'm usually not much for flowers because they remind me of funerals, but in this case it was only a few so there was no distinct odor. Quite romantic actually! Our hotel was up in Park City at the Marriott Mountain Side Resort. I didn't find this out until we left shortly after arriving to go to dinner at Ruth's Chris. The steaks were phenomenal that night! Afterward we stopped at Albertson's, oh I guess it's aFresh Market now, to get a little bubbly and picked up a movie from red box. When we got back to the hotel room we donned our swimsuits and went for a little dip in the pool and hot tub, then back to the room for a glass of Martinelle (that's how mormons celebrate!), and our movie. The next morning Zach challenged me to a game of miniature golf and a race down the Alpine slides. The game of mini golf I graciously let Zach win, knowing how I would dominate him down the hill. Side note, why did they change the miniature golf course up there? It use to be the best, next to Dotties of course, and now it might be the worst one I've ever played on. Anyway, after we were off to the slides and lets just say I had a better ride on the lift up than I did on the ride down. I'm always up for a race on the slides and I usually win so I went into it feeling pretty confident, but my confidence quickly wore off as I slowly watched Zach gain more distance in front of me. I'm not kidding when I say I didn't break ONCE, and I always break around some of those curves. I blame the loss on my sled and consider Zach's victory a tainted one and one I plan on quickly redeeming myself of! The rest of the day consisted of shopping and hanging out on Main Street. It was a fun little weekend and a much needed getaway!

Almost a Graduate!

Lets be honest, I'm not a "blogger" and I probably never will be, but after several complaints and ridicule I have decided to step up my game (for now) and give the people what they want!

I don't really have any exciting news to share or anything I feel is worthwhile to write about as of late, just the same old. Not to mention, school has its way of keeping me busy. Although, as of August 4th I'll be happy to say that I will finally be a college graduate and like most college graduates I'm not really sure how I plan to use my degree (economics). I'm just proud to say I made it through some of those classes. It was so nice of my family and Candace to come sit through my graduation. Thankfully the announcer, reading off the names, made it feel more like the NBA Playoffs than a boring graduation!

So now it's onto real life which I have a feeling may be worse than going to school. In fact I'm sure I'll even find myself missing it; like we often do after summer break. There's just something nice about going to school, learning and having homework to keep you busy. School has its way of keeping us productive!
With summer in full swing I can't say that I've had much time to enjoy it thanks to school and of course work (the joys of being an adult!), but we have had time to enjoy Zach's Thursday night softball games and his baseball games on Saturdays! It's really fun to watch him play since he "hung up the spikes" to get married and move back to Salt Lake. The only downfall to his Saturday games is that they're in Provo, and we all know how I feel about that place!
In June Kimber and I went to the Backstreet Boys' concert, realizing that it has been nearly ten years since we had been there for their Millennium tour. Wow how time flies... and how little we've changed!
We were also able to spend some time with Scott and Allison at their cabin and the Diamond Rio concert before they moved to Georgia. We sure will miss them even though they were always "too busy" to see us anyway!
To celebrate the 4th we went to the Oakley Rodeo with the Bartons. It was so much fun, but the fireworks were quite disappointing... everyone knows when the finale finally happens. Well, with those fireworks one shot off, just when we were all ready for it and then... NOTHING; that was it. A sad ending to the rodeo!
I'm sure the next month will be very entertaining with 4 of Zach's best friends getting married. Bo and Kira are the first to go this month along with Jake and Sahar, then come August we have Matt and Masha's followed by Tony and Lauren's. We couldn't be more happy for everyone! Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures to document these upcoming occasions...

Our Story

Zach and I first met on a blind date in the spring of 2006. Unfortunately, we didn't get another chance to see each other before he left on his mission to Houston, Texas that June. He did however call to inform me where he'd be spending the next two years, and as far as I knew, that was that!

Nearly a month after he returned home in June of 2008 we reunited at a mutual friend's house. Our first (technically second) date was on July 23rd. We hardly spent any time apart after that. We were both a little unsure of what course our relationship would take with school quickly approaching and the prospect of Zach heading south to UVU, where he'd be playing baseball. However, we both agreed that if things were meant to be we'd find some way to make it work, and we did! The first semester Zach was kind enough to make the drive to Salt Lake on the weekends. He knew exactly how I felt about being in Utah County; a true Ute's worst nightmare! However, I caved the second half of the year in order to watch him play baseball. Between him being gone for baseball trips and me having to drive to Provo so often it's sufficient to say it was a rough semester.

On April 2nd Zach proposed! His initial plan was to do it on April Fool's Day. However, I made it clear that if he pulled that I'd have to say no for fear that it was a joke. I think he's still disappointed about that.

We were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 5th, 2009. Everything about that day was perfect!

As of now we're both just busy working and going to school. Sometimes it feels like we see each other less now than when he was living in Provo, but I guess that's life as newlyweds!
